Honest buyer note: Our lamps are handwoven by village artisans in Bali and Java, so expect natural colour variation and a size tolerance of roughly ±1–3 cm on larger shades. All prices, MOQs, lead times and container counts are indicative ranges (2024–2025, FOB Indonesia) and final pricing is by quote. Standard wiring is E27 at 220–240 V; we can supply CE-compliant wiring or shade-only (no electrics) so you meet UL/UKCA or local standards in your market — we don’t imply certification we don’t hold. Natural fibre is moisture-sensitive, so we dry, treat and pack appropriately and recommend acclimatisation on arrival. Rattan is generally not CITES-listed. We coordinate vetted workshops and handle export documentation.
At Bali Rattan Lamps, a division of the Juara Holding Group, our business model is intrinsically linked to the health of our planet and the prosperity of our communities. We believe that true luxury is sustainable. It is a commitment that goes far beyond marketing claims; it is woven into every aspect of our operations, from the forests where our rattan is grown to the villages where our lamps are crafted. Our sustainability strategy is built on three core pillars: Responsible Sourcing, Artisan Empowerment, and Environmental Stewardship.
1. Responsible Sourcing: Protecting Our Natural Resources
Our creations are born from nature. Protecting it is our fundamental responsibility.
- Sustainable Rattan Harvesting: Rattan is a climbing vine that depends on healthy forests to thrive. Its harvesting encourages the preservation of trees, unlike timber logging. We partner exclusively with suppliers in Kalimantan and Sulawesi who adhere to sustainable harvesting practices, ensuring the long-term viability of the rattan supply and the forests themselves.
- SVLK Certified Components: Any wood used in our products, such as for frames or decorative elements, is sourced from suppliers who hold Indonesia’s mandatory Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK) certification. This guarantees the wood is legally harvested and traded, a critical requirement for our export markets.
- Natural & Renewable Materials: Beyond rattan, we champion the use of rapidly renewable materials like bamboo, water hyacinth, and banana fiber. These materials require minimal resources to grow and provide alternative income streams for agricultural communities.
- Low-Impact Finishes: We prioritize the use of water-based, low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) finishes and natural stains over harsh chemical lacquers, ensuring a healthier working environment for our artisans and a safer product for the end-user.
2. Artisan Empowerment: Investing in People
Our business exists because of the incredible skill of Indonesian artisans. We are committed to ensuring they thrive.
- Fair Wage & Ethical Partnerships: We go beyond minimum wage. We work with our artisan partners, many of whom are organized in local cooperatives in Gianyar and Cirebon, to establish fair piece-rate prices that reflect the skill and time invested in each item. We guarantee prompt payment to ensure financial stability for their families.
- Local Employment: Over 90% of our workforce, from the weavers to our management team, are Indonesian nationals. We are committed to hiring and promoting local talent.
- Preservation of Heritage Crafts: We see ourselves as custodians of a dying art. We invest in training programs for younger generations, ensuring that complex weaving techniques are passed down and preserved. We document these techniques according to our Editorial Standards to create a lasting record.
- Community Development Initiatives: Through the Juara Holding Group’s foundation, ‘Yayasan Cahaya Desa’ (Village Light Foundation), a percentage of our profits is dedicated to community projects. Our current focus is providing solar lighting systems to remote villages in East Nusa Tenggara, bringing light and opportunity to areas off the main power grid.
3. Environmental Stewardship: Minimizing Our Footprint
We are actively working to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, from production to shipping.
- Waste-to-Wonder Program: We have a zero-waste philosophy. Rattan off-cuts and surplus materials are collected and used by a dedicated team to create smaller decorative objects or are composted for use in local agriculture.
- Optimized Packaging: We have engineered our packaging to maximize protection while minimizing material usage. We use recycled and recyclable cardboard and have eliminated single-use plastics from our packaging process.
- Carbon-Conscious Shipping: We recognize that FCL shipping has a carbon footprint. We offer our clients the option to offset the carbon emissions of their shipment through our partnerships with certified carbon offset programs. We also consolidate shipments at our central warehouse to ensure every container is fully optimized, reducing the number of shipments required.
Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey. We are constantly exploring new materials, new processes, and new ways to create beautiful lighting that is gentle on the earth and empowering for its people.
