Editorial Standards & Buyer Disclosure

Bali Rattan Lamps (balirattanlamps.com) is a B2B wholesale and export desk for handwoven rattan and natural-fiber lighting. We publish trade guidance and connect importers, designers, hotels and retailers to vetted village workshops in Bali and Java. These standards govern everything we publish and supply.

Handmade means natural variation

Every lamp is handwoven by village artisans, so there will be natural colour variation between batches and within a piece, and a size tolerance of roughly ±1–3 cm on larger shades. Tighter tolerances are possible with stricter jigs and sorting, at higher cost. We set expectations up front and work to an approved master sample.

Prices, MOQ and lead times are indicative ranges

No public database gives exact rattan-lighting prices. All figures we publish — FOB prices, MOQs, deposits, lead times and container counts — are indicative ranges for 2024–2025, FOB Indonesia, intended for planning. They vary with design density, size, finish, order volume and exchange rates, and final pricing is always by quote. Container counts depend on nesting and should be confirmed by a packing test.

Wiring & certification — honest limits

Standard export configuration is an E27 lampholder at 220–240 V. We can supply CE-compliant wiring for the EU, or shade-only (no electrics) so you can wire to UL, UKCA or your local standard in the destination country. Many village workshops are not UL-certified by default; we never imply a certification we do not hold, and we recommend buyers verify compliance with a local electrician or test lab.

Natural fibre & moisture

Rattan, bamboo, seagrass and similar fibres are hygroscopic and can develop mould or warp if poorly dried or stored. We dry, treat and pack appropriately, and recommend buyers allow goods to acclimatise on arrival. Many destinations require fumigation and/or a phytosanitary certificate for natural-fibre goods; we handle this as part of export.

CITES & legality

Common commercial rattan is generally not CITES-listed, unlike some timbers or wildlife products, so CITES permits are typically not required — though local forest and harvest regulations still apply at source. This is general information, not legal advice; importers should confirm classification (commonly HS 9405) and duties with their customs broker.

Sustainability — without greenwashing

Rattan is a fast-growing, renewable climbing palm (harvestable in roughly 5–7 years, regrowing from the root) and its cultivation can support forest-friendly rural livelihoods. We will only describe products as “certified sustainable” where backed by a recognised certification such as FSC or PEFC; otherwise we speak of renewability and artisan livelihoods, which depend on responsible sourcing.

How products are made & how we are funded

Design, finishing, quality control and export handling are based in Bali; volume weaving is done by artisans in Bali and Java (notably the Cirebon rattan cluster), using rattan harvested mainly in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. We are a sourcing/export desk, not the only factory: we coordinate vetted workshops, quote, sample, QC and ship. We earn a margin or sourcing commission on orders; this never changes the facts we publish.
