Rattan Lamp Wiring & Certification (CE, UL, Shade-Only)

Rattan Lamp Wiring & Certification (CE, UL, Shade-Only)

Honest buyer note: Our lamps are handwoven by village artisans in Bali and Java, so expect natural colour variation and a size tolerance of roughly ±1–3 cm on larger shades. All prices, MOQs, lead times and container counts are indicative ranges (2024–2025, FOB Indonesia) and final pricing is by quote. Standard wiring is E27 at 220–240 V; we can supply CE-compliant wiring or shade-only (no electrics) so you meet UL/UKCA or local standards in your market — we don’t imply certification we don’t hold. Natural fibre is moisture-sensitive, so we dry, treat and pack appropriately and recommend acclimatisation on arrival. Rattan is generally not CITES-listed. We coordinate vetted workshops and handle export documentation.

Rattan lamp wiring certification is the process of ensuring the electrical parts of a rattan light meet the safety standards in your market (CE, UL, UKCA or local equivalents). For Bali Rattan Lamps, that means supplying CE-compliant 220–240V E27 sets for compatible markets, or shade-only (no electrics) so you can wire and certify locally under your own responsibility.

What “Rattan Lamp Wiring Certification” Really Means in Trade

Most issues around “certified rattan lamps” come from confusion between three different things:

1. Certified electrical components
The cable, lampholder, plug and switch have already been tested and approved (CE, ENEC, UL, etc.) by the manufacturer of those parts.
2. A compliant assembled lamp
The way those parts are assembled into a rattan lamp follows the relevant wiring rules (strain relief, creepage distances, earthing where required, etc.).
3. A fully certified finished product
Your exact SKU, as sold in your market, has been tested by a notified body (for CE) or NRTL (for UL) and is listed under your or our name.

We can help with points 1 and 2. For most buyers, point 3 (full product certification) is done in your own name with your local lab or consultant, especially for UL/ETL in North America and UKCA in the UK.

We will never claim blanket CE, UL or UKCA certification for every SKU we make. That is not how compliance for handmade, custom rattan lighting works in reality.

Our Standard Wiring: E27, 220–240V, LED-Focused

For wired orders, our standard specification is built around mainstream European and international requirements.

Base Specification

  • Lampholder: E27 (Edison screw), suitable for most LED bulbs.
  • Voltage: 220–240V AC.
  • Recommended light source: LED only, to reduce heat load on natural fibers.
  • Maximum wattage (typical guidance):
    • Up to 40W equivalent LED (actual ~5–8W LED) on small pendants and table lamps.
    • Up to 60W equivalent LED (actual ~8–12W LED) on larger pendants and floor lamps.

Final max wattage labeling can be adapted to your specs.

  • Cable: Double-insulated 2-core PVC or textile cable, section sized to relevant standards for 220–240V, length by agreement.
  • Ceiling cup / canopy (pendants): Metal or ABS, color-matched or neutral, with strain relief.
  • Plug type (table/floor lamps): Shuko or European 2-pin by default for wired exports; UK and other plugs only by prior agreement.

This is the baseline; for OEM or larger wholesale programs, we can align materials, colors, and small construction details to your technical file.

CE Rattan Lamp Wiring for EU & EEA Buyers

For the EU/EEA and other CE-markets, the most practical route for natural-fiber lighting is:

  • We assemble using CE-marked components from known suppliers.
  • We follow good practice for cable routing and strain relief in a natural-fiber shade.
  • You act as the “manufacturer” or importer of record in your territory and:
    • Prepare or commission the technical file.
    • Decide how to apply CE marking on packaging or product where needed.
    • Use your own test lab / consultant for any additional verification.

We can share construction details, component datasheets from our vendors, and photographs of assemblies, but we do not issue CE certificates in our name for your market. No Indonesian workshop can honestly do that for every private-label buyer without direct involvement of an EU-based economic operator.

UL Rattan Pendant & North American Markets

For the US and Canada, buyers often ask: “Is this a UL rattan pendant?” The correct answer is: the bare natural-fiber shade cannot be UL-certified by itself. UL/ETL/CSA listing attaches to the electrical assembly and the finished product as sold in your market.

For North America, we recommend one of two paths:

  1. Shade-only, wired locally (most common)
    • We export shade-only (no electrics).
    • You or your wiring partner fit UL-listed lampholders, cables, plugs and canopies in your country.
    • You certify or list under your own brand as required by your authorities, retail partners or inspectors.
  2. Pre-wired, then locally evaluated
    • We wire using components that are similar in rating to UL requirements.
    • You engage an NRTL (UL, ETL, etc.) to assess and, if needed, adapt the wiring before listing.
    • This path needs very clear specs and is usually only viable on volume programs.

We do not claim UL listing on any finished lamp at the point of export. What we can do is build a consistent, repeatable construction so that your lab’s evaluation and any modifications are straightforward.

UKCA and Other Local Marks

For the UK, Australia/NZ, Middle East and other markets with their own marks, the same principle applies:

  • We can wire to voltage and plug type by agreement.
  • We do not issue UKCA, SAA, SASO, or equivalent certifications in our name.
  • You or your local partner handle testing, documentation and labeling.

For all these regions, shade-only (no electrics) remains the cleanest option for many importers.

Shade-Only (No Electrics): Maximum Flexibility and Compliance

Shade-only no electrics rattan is often the best approach for serious retailers and lighting brands. You focus on design, we focus on weaving and finishing, and you take full control of wiring and certification.

What Shade-Only Includes

On a shade-only order, you receive:

  • Finished rattan or woven natural-fiber shade to your design/spec.
  • Integrated hardware to accept your wiring kit:
    • Top ring sized to standard E27 or E26 lampholders, OR
    • Cross-bars / spider frames to suit your preferred fittings, OR
    • Custom brackets for your proprietary systems.
  • Packaging optimized for bulk export, labelled as shade-only.

What you do locally:

  • Install locally certified wiring sets (UL, CE, etc.).
  • Test, label and certify under your own procedures.

When Shade-Only Makes Sense

Buyers typically choose shade-only when:

  • Selling in multiple markets with different standards (EU, US, UK, etc.).
  • They already have preferred wiring suppliers with ready certifications.
  • Retail partners demand strict, auditable compliance in the retailer’s own name.
  • They want easier field replacement of electrics without touching the shade.

If you are still deciding between wired vs shade-only, we can discuss pros and cons for your specific channels via email or WhatsApp — start with an RFQ on plan your trip and share your target markets.

Materials, Heat and Safety: Why We Recommend LED

Natural fibers are beautiful but have limitations that responsible buyers must understand.

Rattan & Natural-Fiber Behavior Around Heat

We work with:

  • Rattan core and peel from Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
  • Seagrass, bamboo, mendong and similar fibers in some weaves.

All are organic materials. Compared to metal or glass, they:

  • Darken and dry out faster under high heat.
  • Can deform slightly if exposed to concentrated heat near the lampholder.
  • Are more sensitive to enclosed, non-ventilated bulbs.

That is why we strongly recommend:

  • LED bulbs only — lower surface temperature, lower power consumption.
  • Open or ventilated shade designs for brighter bulbs.
  • Max wattage labels conservative relative to the fiber and size.

If you plan to use filament-style LEDs that run warmer, tell us at specification stage so we can design clearance around the bulb.

Handmade Tolerances & Natural Variance (Be Honest With Your Customers)

Every rattan lamp we supply is handwoven in village workshops in Bali and Java (especially the Cirebon area), then finished, QC-checked and exported from Bali. This has real implications:

Size & Shape Tolerances

Even with jigs and experienced weavers, natural-fiber lighting cannot hit CNC-level precision. Typical guidance:

  • Size tolerance: approximately ±1–3 cm on large pendants and floor lamps; smaller items usually a bit tighter.
  • Shape: minor asymmetry and hand-character are normal; not every curve is mathematically perfect.

If your brand or retailer demands very tight dimensional tolerances, we will either:

  • Agree detailed tolerances and sort more aggressively at QC stage, OR
  • Recommend alternative constructions (e.g. welded frames under the weave) to stabilize size.

Color Variance

Rattan and other fibers vary by harvest, thickness and batch:

  • Natural finish: shade shift from light straw to medium honey is normal across batches.
  • Stained or painted: we control color as tightly as possible, but surface porosity and climate conditions still create subtle variation.

On volume programs, we can keep a color master sample in Bali and photograph each production against it as part of QC reporting.

Moisture, Mould Risk and How We Manage It

Natural-fiber lamps are sensitive to humidity and moisture. Shipping them from Indonesia to different climates adds another layer of risk that must be managed honestly.

Drying and Moisture Control

We work with workshops that:

  • Use a mix of air-drying and oven drying to bring moisture content down before weaving or finishing.
  • Store finished goods in well-ventilated, off-floor racks, not directly on damp surfaces.

For export, we typically:

  • Include desiccant packs inside master cartons where appropriate.
  • Use vented containers or recommend container desiccants, especially on long sea routes.

Even with this, you must allow acclimatisation at destination:

  • Unpack in a dry, ventilated area, not a closed, damp warehouse.
  • Allow 24–72 hours for any residual odours or minor warp to settle.

If You Are in a Very Humid or Very Dry Market

Tell us your primary delivery ports. For example:

  • Very humid coastal regions: we may recommend extra desiccant, anti-mould treatment and quicker devanning.
  • Very dry climates: rattan can shrink slightly after arrival; structural integrity is fine, but small size shifts can occur.

We do not promise “zero mould risk” — no one can do that honestly with natural fibers and ocean freight — but we design the process to reduce it and flag higher-risk scenarios in advance.

Rattan, Legality & Sustainability (Without Greenwashing)

CITES Status and Local Harvest Rules

At time of writing:

  • Rattan species we use are generally not CITES-listed.
  • Export from Indonesia still follows local forestry and trade regulations.

You do not normally need CITES permits for rattan lamp shades. Your forwarder and customs broker will focus on HS code, country of origin, fumigation where relevant, and your import documentation.

What We Can and Cannot Claim

We will not claim “certified sustainable” rattan unless it is backed by recognized schemes such as FSC or PEFC for the specific supply chain. Currently, most village-based rattan weaving for decor is small-scale and artisanal rather than fully certified.

What we can state truthfully:

  • Rattan is a renewable natural material that regrows relatively quickly compared with hardwoods.
  • Our lamps are handmade in Bali and Java workshops, supporting local artisan livelihoods.

If your brand needs stronger sustainability claims, we can discuss options such as FSC-certified frames or components in mixed-material designs, or documentation about workshop conditions and sourcing practices for your own sustainability reporting.

FOB Ranges, MOQs, Lead Times & Container Loading

We keep this transparent because it shapes your business case and your wiring choices.

Indicative FOB Price Ranges (Wired vs Shade-Only)

All ranges below are indicative 2024–2025, FOB Indonesia, by quote, last verified June 2026. Actual pricing depends on design complexity, finishing, order volume, packing density and wiring specification.

Product Type Typical Size Shade-Only FOB Range* With Wiring FOB Range*
Small pendant shades Ø20–30 cm USD 6–12 USD 8–15
Medium pendant shades Ø30–45 cm USD 9–18 USD 11–22
Large pendant shades Ø45–70 cm USD 15–30 USD 18–35
XL statement pendants Ø70–100+ cm USD 28–65 USD 32–75
Table lamp shades (no base) H20–35 cm USD 5–11 USD 7–14
Floor lamp shades (no base) H40–80 cm USD 14–28 USD 17–34

*These ranges are indicative only and must be confirmed by formal quotation.

Shade-only typically saves you the cost of electrics and assembly in Indonesia, but you must factor in your own local wiring and certification costs.

MOQ Guidelines

  • Per design / size / color: often 30–50 pcs as a practical minimum.
  • Mixed-model orders: possible across a container or LCL, but per-SKU MOQ still applies for efficiency.
  • Custom OEM designs: we usually discuss:
    • Prototype sampling (1–5 pieces, paid samples).
    • First production run from around 50–100 pieces per SKU for complex items.

Exact MOQs depend heavily on volume, complexity (simple open weave vs intricate patterns), and how many SKUs you combine in a shipment.

Lead Times

Indicative production lead times:

  • Sampling / development: 3–6 weeks depending on design feedback rounds.
  • Initial bulk order: around 8–12 weeks from deposit and final approval.
  • Repeat orders: often 6–10 weeks, depending on capacity and seasonality.

Sea freight transit time to your port is additional and varies by route and schedule.

Container Loading & Packing

Rattan lamps are volumetric cargo. The constraint is cubic meters, not weight.

General observations:

  • 20ft container: efficient for small–medium pendants if well nested; typically hundreds of pieces depending on mix.
  • 40ft HQ: recommended for full collections and larger sizes; thousands of smaller shades or several hundred XL pieces if nested carefully.

We work with:

  • Nesting strategies (small shades inside larger ones) to optimize volume.
  • Cartonization plans tailored to your warehouse handling and e-commerce vs retail needs.

During RFQ, tell us:

  • Your target landed cost or retail price bands.
  • Whether you prefer fully wired vs shade-only, or a mix.
  • Container size or total CBM target.

We can then propose practical SKU counts and packing to hit those numbers. To start that conversation, use our RFQ form and WhatsApp contact via plan your trip.

QC for Wired and Shade-Only Rattan Lamps

Our QC approach changes slightly depending on whether we supply electrics or just shades.

For Shade-Only

Checks typically include:

  • Dimensions and frame stability against spec and master samples.
  • Weaving quality: pattern consistency, tension, no sharp ends where not intended.
  • Color / finish control: visual comparison under neutral light.
  • Hardware alignment: top rings, brackets and frames properly centered and secure.
  • Cleanliness: dust, excess lacquer or debris removed before packing.

For Wired Lamps

In addition to all shade-only checks:

  • Visual inspection of wiring layout for chafing risk and strain relief.
  • Basic functional testing (the lamp lights, switch operates, simple polarity checks where applicable).
  • Random sampling for deeper inspection (e.g. tug test on cables, position of lampholder vs frame).

We do not run a full electrical safety laboratory in-house. If you or your customers require lab reports, we coordinate with external labs or support your own lab process with consistent construction and documentation.

What to Specify in Your RFQ (So Wiring & Certification Go Smoothly)

To avoid misunderstandings and delays, include the following in your first enquiry:

  • Target markets: EU, UK, US/Canada, Australia/NZ, etc.
  • Wiring preference: shade-only / CE-style 220–240V wiring / country-specific plugs.
  • Certification strategy: will you:
    • Wire and certify locally (e.g. UL kits in the US)?
    • Act as importer of record in EU and manage CE marking?
  • Bulb type and expected wattage: LED only, warm filament style, max wattage on label, etc.
  • Design details: drawings, reference images, target diameters and heights.
  • Volume: approximate order quantity per SKU and per shipment.

With those details, we can quickly tell you:

  • Whether wired or shade-only makes more sense commercially and legally.
  • Indicative FOB ranges, MOQs, lead times and packing density.
  • Any risk points we see around moisture, size variance or certification expectations.

To send a detailed brief or to talk through it on WhatsApp, go to plan your trip and choose your preferred contact method.

Summary: How We Support Serious Buyers on Wiring & Certification

For B2B buyers, our role is practical:

  • We specialize in the shade: rattan weaving, materials, finishing, and QC.
  • We can add sensible wiring for compatible markets, using CE-marked components and good practice.
  • We are honest that final certification responsibility lies with you as brand or importer, especially for UL/UKCA and strict retail frameworks.
  • We provide shade-only options so you can wire and certify locally without compromise.
  • We stay realistic about handmade tolerances, moisture risk, and natural-material behavior.

If that is the level of transparency you need from a Bali rattan lighting partner, we should talk. Share your project details, markets, and wiring preferences via plan your trip, and we can refine from there over email and WhatsApp.

Are your rattan lamps CE or UL certified?

We use CE-marked components and good wiring practice for EU-style orders, but we do not issue CE certificates or UL/ETL listings in our own name. As the importer or brand, you are responsible for final CE, UL, UKCA or other compliance in your market. Many buyers choose shade-only and handle wiring and certification locally.

Can I order shade-only rattan pendants with no electrics?

Yes. Shade-only is a core part of our business. We supply finished rattan shades with rings or frames designed to accept your local wiring kits. This is often the best route if you sell in multiple markets or need strict UL/ETL, CE or UKCA compliance under your own brand.

What voltage and lampholder do you use on wired lamps?

Our standard is 220–240V AC with E27 lampholders, suitable for LED bulbs. Plug types and cable styles can be adapted by agreement for specific markets, but for North America most buyers still prefer shade-only and local UL-listed wiring sets.

What is the maximum wattage for your rattan lamps?

We design around LED light sources to keep heat low. Typical guidance is up to about 40W-equivalent LED for smaller shades and 60W-equivalent LED for larger ones, but the actual printed max wattage can be set conservatively to match your safety strategy and local regulations.

Who is responsible for product certification and safety documents?

You, as the importer or brand owner in your market, are responsible for final product certification, test reports and technical files. We support you by building consistent constructions, using compliant components where agreed, and sharing component data and photos, but we do not act as your EU or US authorized representative for certification.
